Re: Workshop
Since this is the first time I'm teaching this kind of class, I'm curious to know your responses to the workshops we had in class on Wednesday. Be honest with me, please, because I want to know if this format worked for you. Did you feel comfortable in this kind of atmosphere? Did the questions in class help clarify the purpose of the papers you read? Did you find this workshopping to be helpful or harmful to the development of your paper? Any other comments, observations or gripes can be listed here. I want to read what you guys think, so I can help everyone even better for the next paper.

I personally believe the workshop helped me a lot with my essay. I don’t really feel comfortable sharing my pieces with other students until my work is completely done but this workshop allowed me to open up to other students in the class which helped me a lot when writing this paper. I enjoyed getting feedback from other students and I enjoyed giving feedback to other students as well. The questions we filled out today in class were really helpful because it showed what I needed to work on most. I hope we can do something like this again next time because it gives me a chance to see what I need to work more on and it is very helpful when other students give feedback.

Today’s workshop really helped me get a good idea how to revise my paper. Usually when I re-read my paper I read it the way I wanted it to sound, which in return I never pick up on the little grammar mistakes that I make. It was really helpful to have someone read it to me so I could stop and see how it sounds. Also the feedback I got was helpful because my partner showed me that some things do not make sense when another person is reading it. As well as little punctuation errors were correct. I agree with Amanda that I think it would be helpful if we did do this again on our next paper assignment in the future. And even during that time, maybe we could have more partners for more opinions.

I very much enjoyed the workshop held last Wednesday. My partner and I were able to help one another so that we could make the best possible peer revisions for each of our papers. It is very nice to have someone else read what you write so that you can get another point of view on what the topic you're trying to convey is. I know that sometimes when I'm in the heat of the moment of writing, i tend to smash multiple sentences and ideas together, but i was able to eliminate that by having the workshop. The only thing i would recommend is that next time we have more people look over our papers. It wouldn't hurt to have a couple more inputs on our pieces of writing.
ReplyDeleteI found the workshop to be very helpful. Most of the time I end up writing my paper last minute and then just handing them in without rereading what I had just read. But having someone else read my paper and give me feedback really helped me see where there were areas for improvement(for example where there are grammar errors or where I could rewrite a sentence in a better way). Not only do I feel that the workshop is useful in this way but I also think that talking with other students about your paper is a good way to get a different perspective about it and this may end up bringing more examples to help back up your thesis.

I found the workshop very helpful. I tend not to read my papers befre I hand them in, and this helped to pick up the little mistakes. It also helped me to have my paper read to me. This way I could hear the msitakes and not just have someone point them out because when someone just points them out it doesn't help as much. It aslo allowed me to talk to someone else in class that I had never talked to before.

I liked this workshop a lot because when you hear someone else read your paper aloud you can hear the mistakes that you made. I liked the questions you had us answer because they helped me see what I need to add and take out of my paper. I would like to do this with all of our papers. I personally liked going out of the class to read because I cannot read in a room full of other people reading aloud.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely helpful to review our papers in class. I think that the insight given by a classmate is the best way to improve an essay. It is good to let someone else critique your work, because we tend to overlook flaws of our own. I know that personally I have trouble correcting myself and generating new ideas after a first draft of an essay, so this workshop allowed my paper to develop much more than it would have. I found the questions somewhat guiding, however, and feel that better results would come from open ended criticism. With the questions sometimes I felt like I was looking for something that may not have even needed changing just to create a suitable answer.
ReplyDeletein my opinion, i think the workshop was ok. I just think there were to many questions that were not needed or could be shortened to just get to the point. As my last writing class, we were to switch papers with a partner just like in class now, and some of the questions would be state the thesis if the writer has 1, if they dont then help them out etc. We would have only 4 basic, simple questions that get to the point. The workshop that was given had empty space for the other person to write down their ideas for the writer. This helped me also because you then have something to read back to. dont get me wrong, i think the workshop did help but maybe have space for the other person to write down their ideas for the writers paper so they remembered what they said and maybe a little less basic questions that get to the point? sorrry. but that was my honest opinion =)
